MEET DR. JOSH

DR. JOSH MIRMELLI is a Licensed Psychologist (CA Lic. No. 31895) and has been working in the field of mental health and addiction for fifteen years. Highly sought after for his “tell it like it is,” no-nonsense approach, Dr. Josh knows how to balance evidence-based interventions with practical tools to foster liberation from unfulfilling patterns of coping and living. He frequently treats people with symptom constellations that are complex, as well as those with prior treatment failures. At the heart of his clinical practice lies a compelling commitment to advocate on behalf of those who are seeking a meaningful life. He is intent on exhuming a “whole self” for those who desire respite from the human cutouts they feel they have become, and who are driven to lead more purposeful lives.

Dr. Josh’s clinical practice emphasizes the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders, trauma and grief, and relationship issues. He works with individuals, couples, and families. He has received advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). He believes in fostering a strong therapeutic alliance, where you can openly express yourself and work together towards your goals. Dr. Josh is dedicated to empowering his clients to develop resilience, improve their emotional well-being, and cultivate healthy relationships.

DR. JOSH has an affinity for working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as individuals with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. This, in essence, is what underlies his commitment to integrating cutting-edge research and professional collaboration to foster therapeutic engagement by populations who have formerly been marginalized by the mental health profession. He has led over one-hundred psychoeducational workshops tailored around the needs of individuals in early recovery and their family members. He has been invited to offer expert commentary on mental health and mainstream podcasts and internet radio shows. He continues to forge an online and media presence, where he aspires to captivate widespread consciousness around modern mental health issues. Dr. Josh is based in Los Angeles, where he shares a home with his husband and son. His practice is in Beverly Hills.

MODALITIES OF THERAPY

  • Cognitive Behavioral

Distortions in our thinking can lead to behavioral, emotional and interpersonal difficulties. In CBT, individuals learn and practice techniques to identify and augment these patterns in order to enhance mood and optimize functioning.

  • Interpersonal

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) focuses on alleviating distressing symptoms by enhancing the quality of an individual’s interpersonal functioning. IPT regards mental health symptoms as a response to challenges in everyday relationships with others.

  • Dialectical Behavior

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an empirically supported treatment modality, and has been validated to treat a range of clinical conditions including PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, as well as impulse-control and personality disorders.
